Our Story

" The first step towards establishing an NGO. In July 2024, we successfully completed a project focused on forming an NGO dedicated to mountaineering. This is the story of how he achieved his goal of summiting a 600-meter peak. "

I am Anshul Bansal, a 27-year-old para-mountaineer with an unyielding passion for life and an unbreakable love for the mountains. At the age of 20, a life-threatening road accident resulted in the loss of my right leg below the knee, abruptly ending my dream of joining the Indian Forces. Prior to the accident, I was an Air Wing NCC cadet on the path to earning my C certificate, a goal I achieved despite my injury.

In my quest for summits, I faced numerous challenges. My attempts to conquer Mt. Manaslu, the world’s eighth-highest mountain, ended in disappointment. Three separate expeditions to Mt. Yunam (6100 meters/20,000 feet) also ended in failure. However, in April 2024, a new chapter began when I met Pahadi Pirates, a dedicated mountaineering community. Inspired by my story, they rallied behind me for an expedition to climb Mt. Gyama East (6108 meters/20,035 feet) in the Karzok District of Ladakh.

Our journey commenced with acclimatization training from Jispa (10,000 feet) to Karzok from July 9th to 15th, 2024. On July 16th and 17th, we meticulously checked our route and prepared our backpacks for the expedition. The following day, we departed from Karzok village and established our base camp at an altitude of 5450 meters—higher than Everest Base Camp. The base camp was 2.5 km from the roadhead, causing my leg injury some discomfort. However, upon reaching the base camp, a sense of exhilaration took over.

After a meeting and lunch, we planned to start our summit push the next day at 4:00 AM. On July 19th, at the crack of dawn, our ascent began. The night route proved favorable, and by 7:30 AM, we had reached an altitude of 5700 meters, where we paused for breakfast. As we gazed at the summit, it appeared tantalizingly close. Yet, the final stretch was grueling and steep, taking us an additional three hours to navigate. My injury worsened with each step, but with the unwavering support of my friends, I persevered.

At 11:00 AM, I stood triumphantly on the summit of Mt. Gyama East. The elation was indescribable, and to celebrate, I performed a headstand at the peak—a symbolic gesture of my resilience and determination.

This successful summit marks a significant milestone in my mountaineering journey, proving that with determination, support, and an unyielding spirit, any obstacle can be overcome. My heartfelt thanks to the Pahadi Pirates for their belief in me and for being instrumental in achieving this dream.
